VoIP comparison of The Four Basic Types Of Plans Type One Residential / SOHO (Small Office / Home Office) should provide unlimited local calling, may have an option for unlimited Long Distance. International rates will still be metered (per minute) with some unlimited options to certain countries. You might be able to use an Analog Terminal Adapter (ATA) so you can use your old handset, or buy new IP handsets from the provider. Need a Residential VoIP comparison? go to my cheap phone service page. If you're a Small Office / Home Office, needing one or two lines compare VoIP service in my SOHO corner for relevant choices. Or click on the banner below if you want to keep your old phones.
If you're a Small Office / Home Office, needing only a few lines, want great International calling options and want to buy and use IP handsets click on the banner below.
So who's VoIP comparison needs are left here? Small and Mid-sized business with more than one or two concurrent phone calls are going to utilize one of the following business VoIP phone services:
Type Two SIP Trunks – Virtual (Internet) phone lines if you will. Small premise based business IP phone systems like an IP PBX or PBX server (phone systems) will require SIP. This would be a stand alone PBX or key-system (small phone system) Increasingly this option may come as a business phone service package which includes the SIP trunks (dial tone components A.K.A. internet phone lines) and the Internet pipe, and perhaps eventually even the IP PBX along with the IP handsets to do VoIP. The best quality SIP trunks charge by the minute for all calls, even local. Think cell phone plans. Some SIP trunks provide for unlimited local calling, but metered (per minute) long distance. Some allow for all calls to be unlimited (beware, you get what you pay for) Your VoIP reviews of available plans are generally going to show International calling is still going to be metered, so you're shopping rates "per minute" on International, much like regular wire line phone service. If you'd like to comparison shop for SIP trunks click on the banner below. Pick "SIP trunks" as your service type, and follow the process along until you get pricing. If it says not available or you get lost, get a hold of me and I can help.
Type Three Integrated Access T1 - This VoIP business phone package allows you to keep your old PBX or key system equipment, then provides the dial-tone services and Internet pipe on the same wires, in which case you probably don't even know you're using VoIP, as it's all managed by the service provider. In this case an INTEGRATED ACCESS DEVICE (IAD / Magic Box) will be included, generally at no additional charge. When delivered via 4 wire copper T1 rather than cable modem, this is a very robust and reliable connection. Unlike SIP trunks above, a VoIP comparison here will generally always provide for unlimited local calling, but still have metered long distance charges, although some plans allow for unlimited long distance. Here we can provide analog (POTS) or digital voice service like PRI to your phone system, so no matter what type of existing equipment you have, we can hook it up using the IAD / Magic Box. VoIP comparison shopping for Integrated Services you can trust is easy at the Shop For T1 website click here to visit the boys over there they have the whole comparative pricing thing down pat. Pick "Integrated Access" as your service type, and follow the process along until you get some pricing.
Type Four Hosted PBX - Some of the really cool business VoIP phone service is now "hosted" out on the Internet. Hosted PBX (not to be confused with Virtual PBX) will always include the dial tone and features like ring groups, voicemail, three way calling, extension dialing, etc. (like an on-site PBX phone system), but may or may not include the Internet pipe itself. This service requires only IP handsets and perhaps a traffic shaping device (to give the VoIP packets priority on the wire) at your business, the rest of the PBX is "in the cloud". Decent straight forward hosted service is at the banners below. However, this is a one size fits all approach, so I'd suggest getting a hold of me and let's chat a little about your VoIP comparison needs. Maybe you have a view or experience as either an end user or service provider of Hosted VoIP you'd like to share? If so, click here to jump to the form that will let us know.

All right, so there are your four types of Small and Mid Sized Business VoIP comparisons. Enterprise VoIP Has Special Needs And Options Keeping it simple for the big boys, you're going to be able to compare VoIP service and simply use a blend of the four types reviewed above to connect your branches to the world and then headquarters, and then also connect remote / virtual workers into the network. Most Enterprises deploy a number of clustered PBX servers or PBXs with a combination of services, SIP, PRI and so forth. Really large ones maybe even your own soft switch for many, many extensions in a large organization or group of organizations under one holding company. Any of these may be on premise or in a data bunker for a "hosted" type deployment. Branch locations should then be connected back to HQ via a private Wide Area Network (WAN). WANs allow for free toll voice calling between branches (no long distance – even Internationally), faxing and other real time data needs like video communication as well as providing secure connections for e-mail and file transfers without the maintenance headaches, latency and delay incurred with traditional Virtual Private Networking (VPN) setups. Once you have your own private IP backbone / WAN, then you can look at joining branches or remote users utilizing one or a blend of the four technologies above. By the way E-Dude is Certified in the design, pricing and carrier selection of Wide Area Networks, especially when combined with real time VoIP and video, so give me a shout and let me know your needs.
